Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 6, 2026
This policy explains how the Cluerow website, the bookkeeper app and the client answer page (“Cluerow”, “we”) handle information. Short version: transaction data stays in browsers and in the links you send. We don't receive it or store it.
Bookkeepers: files and worksheets
Files you import are read by code running in your browser. Transactions, client names, answers, your settings and the keys for the links you create are stored only in your browser's storage (IndexedDB) on your device. They are not uploaded to us. CSV and PDF worksheets and backup files are created in your browser and saved to your device. Clearing browser data, using a private window, or switching browser or device means the data won't be there; use “Export backup” to keep a copy, and store backups as carefully as other client records (they contain transactions and link keys). You can delete everything with “Delete all data” on the Firm & data tab.
Question links and reply links
When you create a link, the selected transactions (date, description, amount), your name, the client's name, your email address if you enter one, your message, due date and category labels are compressed and encrypted in your browser and placed in the part of the link after “#”. Browsers don't send that part to a website when a page loads, so when a client opens the link, our server receives only the page address without the data. The decryption key is part of the link, so anyone who has the link can read its contents, including email providers and email security tools that scan links, and anyone the link is forwarded to. If an email scanner re-encodes the “#”, the encrypted part can reach our hosting provider as part of the page address; our own code doesn't run for or record these addresses.
Reply links and .cluerow answer files contain the client's answers and notes, encrypted; they don't contain the key. The client chooses how to send them (their own email app, a share option on their phone, or a downloaded file). We don't receive them.
Clients: the answer page
Answers you type are saved in your browser's local storage on your device so you can come back to the link later. They are deleted automatically 30 days after you last changed them, or when you tap “Remove my answers from this device”. The page doesn't send your answers anywhere until you choose to email, share or download the reply.
What this website collects
Cluerow has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics scripts and no advertising or tracking scripts. Pages don't load scripts, fonts or other resources from third-party servers. To see whether the site is useful, this website's own code on Cloudflare keeps anonymous, aggregate daily counts: pages viewed (not including question or reply links), visitors' country, the domain of the website that linked here, and how many times links are created, replies are made, answers are merged and worksheets are downloaded. These counts contain no transaction data and no IP addresses, cookies or identifiers, and they are not shared with any third party. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare (Cloudflare Pages), processes standard technical data such as IP address, browser type and requested page addresses in order to deliver and protect the website. See Cloudflare's privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you. Please don't send client financial data or links containing it. If you report abuse and include a link, we will be able to see the transactions in it; we use it only to deal with the report.
Payments
There are currently no paid features and we don't collect any payment information. If that changes, this policy will be updated before any purchase is possible.
